My favorite quote
“I have nothing to say and, I’m saying it.”
It’s my favorite quote by one of the most thoughtful artists that almost no one has ever heard of. John Cage. He’s like the Beatles but for thinking. He made music. Mostly.
I’ve never stopped thinking about what nothing could be. Because he says he’s saying it which means he’s saying something. Maybe it means that it’s anything. And if it’s anything then it’s everything. Everywhere. Always. Forever. Kind of like “what” an idea is. Like cave people with pants on. An idea is just the form thoughts take. But if thoughts are what ideas are made of, then we must be boundless thought, existing everywhere, all at once, as everything we’ve ever known.
I mean what is thought trying to think? What does thought want to be? If left to form itself without us getting in it’s way.
An idea we can change into anything we want.
Is this really the life we want for ourselves?
You have nothing to teach me. I have everything to learn.
We are all made of boundless thought. I think it’s time we all acted like it.
